The short version
We don’t sell your data. We collect the minimum we need to run the podcast and the newsletter. If you’d rather not be tracked at all, you can listen on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or via our RSS feed without ever giving us your email.
What we collect
- Newsletter signups. When you enter your email, we store it in our database (Supabase) and forward it to our email provider (Brevo) so we can send you the show. That’s it — no name required.
- Site analytics. If we ever enable analytics, we use privacy-friendly tools (Plausible or Vercel Analytics) that do not use cookies and do not identify you.
- Server logs. Vercel keeps standard web-server logs (IP address, page requested, user-agent) for security and uptime. These rotate out within ~30 days.
What we don’t collect
- Cookies that track you across other websites.
- Your name, address, or anything else not voluntarily given.
- Listening behaviour from the podcast itself — that data is held by Apple, Spotify, etc., not us.
How we use it
Newsletter emails go out via Brevo. We use the email solely to send you the show, occasional behind-the-scenes notes, and (very rarely) a launch announcement. Every email has an unsubscribe link. You can also email us at contact@oldhousesjapan.com and we’ll remove you ourselves.
Third parties
- Supabase— database + authentication.
- Vercel— hosting.
- Brevo— newsletter delivery.
- Spotify for Podcasters— podcast hosting + distribution to Apple, Spotify, etc.
Each of these has their own privacy policies. We send them the minimum data they need to do their job.
Your rights
You can ask us to show you what we have on file, correct it, or delete it entirely. Email contact@oldhousesjapan.com and we’ll respond within a week.
Changes
If we materially change this policy we’ll update the date at the top and, for substantive changes, mention it in the newsletter.
